Minister wants more entities involved in removing squatters

Government is looking to up the ante in removing persons who are illegally occupying State lands.

Speaking at a Lease Letter Distribution Ceremony today, Agriculture Minister Clarence Rambharat says he propose some legislative changes to Cabinet.

The idea is to allow other entities in the country – in addition to the Commissioner of State lands – to enforce eviction.

He believes there is a “further proliferation of squatting” while the process to remove illegal occupiers is bureaucratic.

Mr Rambharat suggests that among the entities that can assist are the Land Settlement Agency and municipal corporations through Local Government Reform.
