While some rain is in the forecast this week, this does not necessarily mean the start of the 2025 Wet Season.
103.1FM News spoke today with Meteorologist Gary Benjamin who explained that the Dry Season can include wetter than average periods, while the Wet Season can include drier than usual periods.
He says what determines the start of the Wet Season is the cause of the rain.
Mr Benjamin says over the course of the next few days, the TTMS will analyze local weather patterns, from which, a determination will be made regarding the official start of T&T’s Wet Season.
He also explained that while the Wet Season is generally considered to run from June to December, the past few years has seen it officially declared in the latter part of May.
Mr Benjamin also spoke about the job of a meteorologist, reminding that it about predictions and not prophecies.
