The Met Office is monitoring an area of low pressure associated with a Tropical Wave, approximately 2,200km east of the Lesser Antilles.
In a statement, it says at this time, the system poses no direct threat to Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and its dependencies.
Showers and thunderstorms associated with the system remain disorganized and there is a medium chance (60%) of development into a Tropical Cyclone over the next 48 hours and a slightly higher chance (70%) of development in five (5) days.
It is forecast to move westward to west-northwestward near 30 km/hr over the next several days.
Regardless of development, the system is likely to affect portions of the Leeward Islands with localized heavy rainfall and gusty winds by early next week.
