Temperatures in Piarco dipped to 19°C overnight and the Met Office says the last January minimum of 19°C came in 2010.
It says it is not uncommon for January to produce temperatures below 20°C however, in recent years, it came in between 19.2°C and 19.7°C.
The Met Office notes that the lowest minimum ever recorded at Piarco is 16.1°C on two nights in January 1964 and on in January 1976.
It says, generally, the coldest night depends on individual weather systems but is always based on a seasonal cycle.
On average, the coldest nights occur between December and February.
