Mayaro MP Rushton Paray says his constituency is at risk of a fire disaster, as there are no fully functional tenders in the entire region.
He is particularly concerned, as T&T gets into what is expected to be a harsh dry season, which carries a high chance of bush fires.
According to Mr Paray, there is a fire tender that operates with a defective pump, which is “woefully inadequate” if a severe fire breaks out either in someone’s home or business.
He adds that while a new tender was assigned in May 2017, that truck was involved in an accident and has been parked-up at the station since September 2018.
He says the defective fire truck is also forced to service nearby Rio Claro, since there are no functioning tenders there.
The MP also contends that the entire situation is made worse wby the unreliable water supply to the area.
He is now calling on the Government to step in and address the problems.
