Maximum Security Prison on temporary lockdown after COVID cases


    The Maximum Security Prison in Golden Grove is under temporary lockdown after 18 inmates tested COVID-positive.

    According to the T&T Prison Service, the prisoners were tested on Thursday 5th November, 2020.

    They were relocated to the Claxton Bay Correctional Facility which is their official COVID-19 treatment centre.

    Contact tracing has already been initiated.

    It says containment measures at the prison are continuing with scheduled testing of inmates identified as contacts to the positive cases, daily sanitization exercises, thermal scanning of both staff and inmates, mandatory wearing of masks, utilization of full personal protection equipment in areas identified as hot zones, limited movement or transfer of prisoners and enforcement of advisories for members of staff to desist from attending work and to seek medical attention at the nearest health facility, if feeling unwell.

    To date, the Prison Service has recorded 57 positive cases with fifteen making full recoveries so far.
