Man granted $80K bail over assaulting police, other charges

A Nelson Street man has been granted $80,000 bail after pleading not guilty to charges, including assaulting a police officer.

Marc Anthony Joseph appeared before a Port of Spain magistrate yesterday to answer to two counts of assaulting police as well as resisting arrest, using obscene language and littering.

The charges stem from an incident in which the man was ticketed for failing to wear a mask.

It is alleged that he became hostile towards officers and threw the ticket on the roadway, before verbally and physically attacking the officer.

Two officers were injured in the incident and taken to hospital.
