Lone surviving suspect in Chancellor shooting with off-duty police appears court


    The lone surviving suspect in an alleged attempted robbery and subsequent shootout with an off-duty police officer on Lady Chancellor Hill has appeared in court.

    23-year-old Meschach Quamina of Foster Quavador Road, Port of Spain is charged with common assault stemming from the alleged incident on Wednesday 13th January 2021.

    Reports state that he was shot at by one of three men who approached him, causing him to return fire with his licensed gun.

    One suspect died at the scene, another was found dead nearby while one had escaped.

    Quamina was arrested and charged at the Port of Spain General Hospital while seeking medical attention for gunshot wounds.

    The accused was not called upon to plead in court and would reappear before a judge on Tuesday 16th February, 2021.
