Legislative framework for Styrofoam ban “drafted”

The legislative framework for the ban on the importation of Styrofoam products has been drafted by the Attorney General.

This is the latest update from the Ministry of Planning almost six months after the ban was approved by Cabinet.

It says a time-frame for the completion of the framework will be formally announced as collaboration between the AG’s Office, Ministry of Trade and Ministry of Finance continues.

When Government’s intention was made public in July 2018, it also pushed citizens to begin recycling other waste such as PET plastic bottles, drink cartons, aluminium cans and glass bottles.

Local polystyrene manufacturers were also given time to make their products environmentally friendly.
