Laventille man shot dead by police


    Investigations are ongoing after a police-involved shooting which claimed the life of a 34-year-old Laventille man.

    Police say that around 1:20am yesterday, officers were on patrol in Port of Spain when they were told of loud explosions in Gonzales.

    On arrival at the site, they saw a white Toyota vehicle speed off and later chased it along Laventille Road.

    The vehicle crashed into a car parked along the roadway following which the occupants allegedly shot at police who returned fire.

    One man exited the vehicle and ran off along John Trace, while another was found in the driver’s seat with gunshot wounds.

    The man was pronounced dead at hospital and identified as Kyle King.

    Police say they recovered a loaded pistol along John Trace and a Glock 19 magazine and ammunition from the vehicle.
