La Paille residents fear river could wash away homes

La Paille Village residents want the Works Ministry to intervene as they fear a river could wash away homes and claim lives.

A protest was held on Tuesday to highlight their concerns and the villagers were joined by Chaguanas West MP Dinesh Rambally.

MP Rambally said the volume of water from the river breaching the elevated banks of the Caroni River will potentially cover the houses and affect about 1,500 people.

He confirmed that he had received an acknowledgment from the Works Minister to letters he had written about the problem.

The MP supports the residents’ belief that the matter should be treated with as a priority by the authorities.
