La Brea man charged with breaching protection order

A 38-year-old La Brea man has been denied bail after appearing in court charged with breach of a protection order.

On December 12th, Leston Kigana Cooper allegedly went to the home of his wife armed himself with a cutlass and demanded to see his children.

He left when other persons nearby raised an alarm, and subsequently surrendered to officers of the Traffic and Highway Patrol who then handed him over to the Southern Gender Based Violence Unit.

Cooper’s actions were in breach of the protection order secured against him in October 2019.

Magistrate Natalie Hamilton-Diop ordered that he be remanded into custody, to reappear on January 4th 2021.
