KPB: Govt’s proposed amendment to procurement law will extract its teeth

The proposed amendment to the Public Procurement Act will “extract the teeth out of the legislation” according to the Opposition Leader.

Mrs Kamla Persad-Bissessar, in a media release, says government will make its third attempt at changes in Parliament on Friday.

However, she claims the upcoming proposal will remove several services from the scrutiny of the regulator and parliament, defeating the objective of the act.

She says the act, which is yet to be fully proclaimed, seeks to ensure accountability, fairness and local industry development in the procurement and disposal of public property.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar says the UNC is opposed to what she has deemed a “boldfaced tactic” to destabilize democracy.
