Kangaroo & birds die at Emperor Valley Zoo, officials blame fireworks display

One of the male kangaroos and several birds at the Emperor Valley Zoo have died, and officials there are blaming the recent Independence Day fireworks.

In a statement posted to Facebook, it says on the night in question, within a short time of the fireworks starting, officials observed the intense fluttering of some smaller birds who died within minutes.

It says several other animals were visibly traumatized, and while they worked to stabilize those affected animals, one of the small male kangaroos did not recover.

The Zoo had previously called for the fireworks to be relocated or for the switch to be made to noiseless fireworks.

In this statement however, it has adopted a hardened stance and is now calling for a complete ban on fireworks in T&T.
