Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar says Marlene McDonald has a right to defend herself in court.
The former Minister was this morning charged with money laundering, conspiracy to defraud the Government, and misbehavior in public office.
Mrs Persad-Bissessar says the justice system dictates that everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and believes it is not a time for gloating, insults and judgement.
She also urged the authorities to ensure that Ms McDonald receives proper medical care, with news circulating that she has fallen ill.
The UNC Leader says it is a trying time for the former Minister, and says she hopes that she recovers well to have her fair day in court.
