Kamla calls for election following cancelled appointment of Garvin Simonette

UNC Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar wants a General Election following what she calls a ‘fiasco’ in the selection of a new Public Administration Minister.

Mr Garvin Simonette was due to be sworn-in at 2pm today to replace Marlene McDonald, but Government decided against it due to ‘new information’.

Social media posts today claimed that Mr Simonette was charged with DUI in the USA back in 2014.

103FM confirms via the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office website that a person named Garvin Simonette was charged with ‘Drunk Driving, Alcohol or Drugs’ in November that year.

Mrs Persad-Bissessar says the ‘latest fiasco’ has thrown Dr Keith Rowley’s poor leadership and by extension his judgment into the spotlight once again.

In fact, she claims that since Marlene McDonald was arrested, the Prime Minister has gone into hiding, leaving his subordinates to deal with the fallout.

The Opposition Leader says the Rowley Government is clearly in chaos and believes the only alternative for Government is to call a General Election immediately.
