Probe into Airports Authority contract for immigration kiosks

Justice Rolston Nelson S.C. has been appointed to investigate contracts awarded by the Airports Authority for the Automated E-Gate Systems at the Piarco and ANR Robinson Airports.

According to Minister Stuart Young, two contracts for these immigration kiosks were awarded to Novo Technology Incorporation Limited, after what appeared to be a selective tendering process.

The most concerning part, he adds, is the payment agreement.

Mr Young says steps have now been taken to examine the contracts.

Mr Young says the matter was uncovered when the Authority approached the Works Ministry for funds to cover the payment.

He also insists that Government was unaware of the contracts, since they never came before the Cabinet for approval.

The Minister was speaking during today’s post-cabinet news conference.
