Inspector charged with misbehaviour in public office

A Police Inspector has been charged with perverting the course of public justice and misbehaviour in public office.

The charges against Voster Yearwood stem from an incident where three non-nationals were arrested on June 5th 2017 in Marabella.

According to the TTPS, the three were taken to the Police Station to verify their immigration status, where it was discovered that two were in Trinidad legally, while the third did not produce any passport or travel document.

Shortly after midnight on June 6th 2017, Yearwood arrived at the station, identified himself as a Police Inspector, and vouched for the foreigners saying they were his friends.

Despite being informed that one of the individuals had no travel documents, he left the station with all three in his private vehicle.

Yearwood was arrested and charged yesterday, and appeared virtually before a Justice of the Peace in Port-of Spain today.

He was granted $50,000 bail on each of the charges, with the matter adjourned to October 20th.
