The International Monetary Fund says T&T’s immediate priorities are accelerating COVID-19 vaccinations and supporting economic recovery.

The IMF released a concluding statement which includes the preliminary finds of its staff at the end of an official visit or mission, in most cases to a member country.

It says T&T faced unprecedented challenges in 2020-21 but that authorities’ “decisive policy response helped contain COVID-19’s spread, protect lives and livelihoods, and pave the way for a strong recovery.”

The IMF says once recovery is firmly in place, policy attention should focus on reducing public debt levels and rebuilding fiscal buffers, supported by a credible fiscal framework.
