Hurricane possible as weather system approaches Leeward Islands


    A Tropical Depression in the mid-Atlantic is forecast to develop into a Tropical Storm today, as it approaches the northern Leeward Islands.

    The National Hurricane Centre says at present, it is carrying maximum sustained winds of 55 km per hour with higher gusts.

    However, the system is forecast to become a hurricane by the time it approaches the northern Leeward Islands on Thursday night or Friday.

    No watches or warnings have yet been issued for any Caribbean Island.

    TD 10 is currently located 1870 km east south-east of the Leeward Islands.
