Hurricane Humberto lashes Bermuda

Rain and strong winds from Hurricane Humberto have begun to whip Bermuda.

Humberto, a sprawling Category 3 storm, is packing sustained winds of 120 mph, and is passing about 100 miles west of Bermuda.

The National Hurricane Center warned that a prolonged period of dangerous winds is expected to continue through to Thursday morning.

Southern coastal parts of the island could experience flooding from storm surge and dangerous breaking waves, one of which has been measured in excess of 30 feet.
