History has been made in the Prison Service as a woman has been promoted to the rank of Superintendent for the first time.

Ms Charmaine Johnson has over 32 years of service as was most recently at the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Prisons.

Yesterday she was handed her instrument of appointment by Acting Commissioner of Prisons Deopersad Ramoutar.

He advised her to continue being a positive role model for all women and urged her to use the promotion as a tool to aspire and inspire.
