Health Ministry recalls drug due to possible bacterial contamination


    The Ministry of Health is recalling an injection primarily used by eye specialists, due to a possible bacterial contamination.

    It is: N- CORT 40 mg/mL, Ml Intravitreal/Intraocular Use (Triamcinolone Acetonide Injection BP), Batch No NC-O2 with the Expiry Date: March 2022.

    The Ministry says this product, manufactured by Nischi Lifesciences b141/142 Mahagujarat Indl. Estate, Moraiya, Ahmedabad-382213 (India), is not registered in Trinidad and Tobago.

    It says it was brought into the country via parallel illegitimate importation channels and the Chemistry Food and Drugs Division (CFDD) has already seized stocks from the supplier.

    As such, the Ministry is advising consumers who have this drug to refrain from using it and contact the Division at 623-5242 or 800-2333.

    It is also calling on pharmacies and medical supply companies to stop selling it and inform the Chemistry Food and Drugs Division as well.

    Additionally, the Ministry is asking all patients and physicians who may have used this drug to contact the office of the Chief Medical Officer at 627-0014 ext 1616.
