Health Minister gets COVID-19 jab

Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh has received his first shot of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

The jab was administered this afternoon at the St. Joseph Enhanced Health Centre in Champs Fleurs.

The site is one of 21 locations where shots are being administered, as the roll-out of the national vaccination drive got underway today.

Prior to this, over 1,000 frontline health workers were vaccinated using doses donated by Barbados.

Speaking before his inoculation, Mr Deyalsingh gave figures of the rollout thus far, and believes the Ministry will be able to meet its target of 1,000 COVID-19 shots a day.

Mr Deyalsingh says three more vaccination sites will be added for the NWRHA in the coming week.

He also promised to reveal more about mass vaccination sites in the coming weeks.

Also receiving the vaccine in Tobago today was THA Secretary of Health, Tracy Davidson-Celestine.

Mr Deyalsingh confirmed that contact tracing was underway after Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley tested positive for COVID-19.

The Office of the Prime Minister announced earlier today that Dr Rowley began experiencing flu-like symptoms yesterday evening and was subsequently tested.

He is now in isolation and under medical supervision.

While Mr Deyalsingh confirmed tracing, he could not say where the PM is currently staying.

Mr Deyalsingh also revealed that last time he and the PM were in the same physical space.
