HDC warns of increase in housing scams

Over the past month a number of persons have been victims of housing scams and, in some cases, lost thousands of dollars.

This is according to the Housing Development Corporation, which in a media release today, says other persons were targeted but the fraudsters were not successful.

The HDC assures that it will never use an intermediary to collect funds nor will it sanction payments or transfers to personal accounts.

It also says that all transactions related to the allocation of units are done by appropriately identified officials and payments are made at the cashiers in full view of cameras at the HDC office.

Anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of a housing scam is urged to immediately contact the TTPS Fraud Squad.

They can be reached at 625-2310 or 624-0323 for the Port of Spain branch or 657-8844 or 652-8594 for San Fernando.
