Juan Guaido, Venezuela’s Opposition Leader, claims that President Nicolas Maduro’s Government is moving to disband the legislature and call for new legislative elections.
According to Reuters, he made the claims yesterday saying the decision would be made today by the Constituent Assembly, a parallel legislature controlled by the ruling Socialist Party.
Guaido believes this move could potentially escalate Venezuela’s political crisis and involve the arrests of more legislators.
The next parliamentary elections are not scheduled until December 2020.
Reuters says it contacted the Information Ministry for comment but it did not immediately reply.
