Gov’t and UN Women to partner on public transport safety

Government will partner with the UN Women Agency to improve public transport and its safety for women.

According to the Planning Ministry, there will be an assessment on gender responsive public transport in the east/west corridor of Trinidad.

The Planning Ministry says the assessment is scheduled to commence in November 2022 and will focus on how current lighting, level of security services, accessibility and reliability of the public transportation routes, may enable opportunities for violence against women.

In addition, it will also explore opportunities to incorporate and enhance digital tools such as mobile apps, GPS tracking and the increased presence of security camera systems.
