Government says commitment to press freedom evident in world ranking


    Government believes its commitment to press freedom can be seen in T&T’s rise in the World Press Freedom Index.

    This statement comes on the observance of World Press Freedom Day 2020 – Journalism without fear of favour.

    According to the Ministry of Communications, in 2013, this country ranked 44 out of 180 nations while in 2020, it has moved up to 36.

    It says during the COVID-19 pandemic, the necessity of the media to dull misinformation has been highlighted.

    It is assuring that it will continue to forge healthy relationships with media entities.
