The financial income threshold for GATE funding is too low according to Education Minister Anthony Garcia.
He says a newspaper article quoted his colleague, Minister in the Ministry of Finance, Allyson West, as saying the threshold was too high based on a World Bank report.
CURRENT INCOME THRESHOLD:
• $10,000 per month or less – eligible for 100 percent funding
• Above $10,000 per month but less than $30,000 – eligible for 75 per cent funding
• Over $30,000 per month – eligible for 50 per cent funding
While the Hansard, the official transcript of the Parliament, also quotes Senator West as calling the threshold “too high” Mr Garcia says this is not the case.
The current means testing system was introduced in the 2017-18 academic year.
