Following tied elections, recounts have been requested in four districts in Tobago, while one bye-election recount has been requested in Trinidad.
This is according to the Elections and Boundaries Commission in a media release sent this afternoon following Tobago’s six-six stalemate.
It says the Progressive Democratic Patriots has called for counts in Canaan/Bon Accord, Lambeau/Signal Hill and Scarborough, while the PNM wants to recount Bethel/Mt Irvine.
Overall in Tobago there was a voter turnout of 51.84% with 13,288 votes for the PNM, 12,987 for the PDP, 281 for independent candidates and nine for the Class Action Reform Movement.
The recount in Trinidad has been requested by independent candidate for Hollywood, Christopher Wright, who got 307 votes.
In Trinidad, there was a turnout of 25.66% with PNM getting 3,941 votes, UNC getting 3,359 votes and independents getting 976.
UNC won the districts of Arima Central, Cunupia and Hindustan/St Mary’s while PNM won Hollywood and Morne Coco/Alyce Glen.
