A former PNM General Election candidate insists that a recent hamper distribution had nothing to do with politics.

Sharda Satram, who unsuccessfully contested the Couva North seat in 2020, is responding to claims by the UNC of corruption in the acquisition of the hampers by an NGO from NAMDEVCO.

The UNC wants an investigation as it alleges that NAMDEVCO recently reduced a promise of 600 hampers per MP to 400.

These hampers are supposed to be given to persons affected by COVID-19 restrictions.

Ms Satram says the NGO, Forged From Love Foundation, is registered and known throughout T&T for its charitable work.

She also assures that an application was made to NAMDEVCO for hampers and they were distributed equitably throughout the community.

Ms Satram insists the Opposition’s statements are petty politics and says persons in need of help received it.
