Flooding woes in Port of Spain after midday rainfall

Officers from the Port of Spain Disaster Management Unit are on the field due to flooding in the capital city.

The water rose in downtown Port of Spain early this afternoon due to a heavy bout of rainfall.

Areas affected include Independence Square, South Quay, Charlotte Street, Edward Street, St. Vincent Street, Tragarete Road and Wrightson Road.

Many persons are unable to leave their buildings at this time, while others are taking rides on the trays of vans to get to drier land.

The situation is also affecting the traffic situation, and the ODPM is advising motorists to proceed with caution or use alternative routes.
