Fisherman gets $40k bail for malicious wounding

    A 33-year-old fisherman from Beetham Gardens has appeared in court charged with malicious wounding.

    Ron Paul stood before Port of Spain Magistrate Antoine yesterday and was granted $40,000 bail with surety, or a cash alternative of $4000.

    He was also ordered to stay 100 metres away from the victim, with the matter adjourned to August 27th.

    Paul is accused of attacking a woman while visiting her home on Tuesday 28th July, 2020 – he allegedly dealt her several blows to her face with his hands, causing a wound over her left eye.

    A report was made by the victim and officers responded shortly after. He attempted to flee the scene, but was caught by officers who responded to a report made by the victim.

    The victim was taken for medical treatment at the Port of Spain General Hospital and referred to the Gender-Based Violence Unit (GBVU).
