Fire contained after explosion at gas plant in Pointe-a-Pierre


    Fire officers have extinguished a blaze where the catalytic cracker at the Niquan Plant exploded around 6:40am on the compound of the former Petrotrin refinery in Pointe a Pierre.

    The Ministry of Energy reported that this was as a result of a component failure resulting in a blowout.

    No injuries or casualties were reported, and the Ministry of National Security says there was no damage to state assets from the incident.

    The fire which resulted from an explosion has been contained and there is no active danger at present to life or property in the immediate vicinity.

    The Ministry of Energy states that it is currently setting up a technical team to officially investigate the cause of the incident.

    Meanwhile, not only did many hear the explosion, but others also reported online that they felt the effect of it as well.
