Final rites have been carried out for the late Ramnarine “Tole” Moonilal.
Known by many as simply “Tole” or “Uncle Tole”, he passed away on Sunday.
He was the father of Raymond, Rennie and Richard Ramnarine, and a founding member of the band Dil-E-Nadan.
A funeral ceremony was held this morning at the family’s residence, following which he was cremated at the Shore of Peace according to Hindu Rites.
Among those attending the cremation was Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who praised his cultural legacy.
Under Mr Ramnarine’s leadership in the 60s, 70s and 80s, Dil-E-Nadan became immensely popular.
He is considered a local music icon, mentor and a cultural inspiration.
