FFOS wants investigation into Government’s spending on rent

A call is being made for a Commission of Enquiry to investigate the property rentals being paid by Government.

President of Fishermen and Friends of the Sea Terrance Beddoe claims the public is concerned that rents are excessively inflated and kickbacks are being paid.

Mr Beddoe wants Government to report to Parliament and state whether rents are of a comparative value to private sector rents for similar locations.

In the future, he believes an independent, multi-sector committee should be established to oversee Government property rentals.

He says it should operate under special terms of reference which should only be decided on after wide public consultation.
