An environmental group is calling for assistance after a fisherman was reportedly thrown overboard at gunpoint last night.
According to a media release from Corporate Secretary of Fishermen and Friends of the Sea, Gary Aboud, the incident occurred around 9pm outside of La Brea.
He is asking fishermen in the area to assist in the search for the missing person who has been described as a slim African male with brown skin.
Mr Aboud notes that the boat was stolen and one other fisherman managed to swim back to shore.
The vessel has since been recovered without its nets and engine.
103.1FM News has reached out to the Coast Guard and is awaiting a comment.
Meanwhile, the National Security Minister is due to meet with stakeholders today to discuss the safety of fishermen, especially while at sea.
That meeting was requested by Couva North MP Ravi Ratiram and will also include Pointe a Pierre MP David Lee, and the Presidents of the Carli Bay and Claxton Bay fishing associations.
