Pollution, abuse and outdated legislation are areas of concern for an environmental group on World Oceans Day 2021.

Fishermen and Friends of the Sea believes, after 30 years of commemorating the day, T&T has shown no significant change to improve the marine environment.

In a media release, Corporate Secretary Gary Aboud claims abuse comes from seismic surveys and alleges that pollution comes from landfills and energy plants.

Turning to laws, he says urgent and immediate legislative change is needed, calling the Fisheries Act of 1916 “outdated” and the Beverage Container Bill “neglected.”

Mr Aboud says repeated calls have been made to government on these matters without an answer.
