Environmental group, Fishermen and Friends of the Sea, is calling for the Buccoo Reef to be designated an Environmentally Sensitive Area (ESA).

This comes on the heels of news yesterday that Sandals has walked away from its proposed project in Tobago.

FFOS Secretary Gary Aboud says several sustainable development groups had claimed that the resort would destroy the Reef.

Now with the Sandals pullout, he is calling on the Environmental Management Agency (EMA) to restart the process to give the Buccoo Reef ESA recognition.

Mr Aboud also looked at the pullout from an economic perspective.

Mr Aboud says while it welcomes development, the environment must be protected from future projects.
