Today, Hemraj Alex Sooknanan would have turned 20.
He was one of seven fishermen thrown into the Gulf of Paria by bandits on the night of July 22nd, 2019.
The bodies of five, including Mr Sookanan, were found.
The other two are still missing.
Their families have been grieving ever since, and some believe more could have been done to help in the immediate aftermath of the incident.
For Mr Sooknanan’s family, his birthday is a painful reminder of the young life that was lost in the most tragic of circumstances.
They will celebrate the occasion this afternoon with a memorial birthday party at Bay Road Extension Junction in Carli Bay.
