The Equal Opportunity Tribunal has today issued a statement following a court matter involving attorney Veera Bhajan.
According to reports, Bhajan won the case against the EOT after its failure to allow her to take up a role as a lay-assessor at the Tribunal.
The EOT was ordered to appoint her to the position and pay for damages.
In a media statement today, the Tribunal says it respects the Court and the judgments, however it insists that it has not done anything injudicious.
It says the Tribunal was closed due to numerous challenges, including no internet or phone services and unsafe conditions, and therefore, the appointment could not be facilitated.
The Tribunal does not intend to challenge the judge’s orders, however, its Chairman will be filing an appeal against orders made against her on several grounds.
