“Watchmen” leads Emmy nominations


HBO’s superhero series “Watchmen” leads the way at this year’s Emmy Awards, with 26 nominations overall.

The show, which starred Regina King, has been recognised despite plans for a second season being scrapped.

Comedy-drama “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” received 20 nominations, while “Ozark” and “Succession” have 18 each.

Another surprise powerhouse in terms of nominations is Disney’s “The Mandalorian”, a show set in the Star Wars universe.

The show, which has one season out, received 15 nominations in total.

The winners are scheduled to be announced on 20 September during a ceremony broadcast by ABC and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The Emmys are the biggest night in US TV.
