WATCH: Will Smith’s emotional discussion on ending feud with “original Aunt Viv”

Will Smith has opened up about burying the hatchet with Janet Hubert who was the first actress to portray Aunt Viv in the ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’.

Smith and Hubert have ended a years-long feud during HBO Max’s Fresh Prince reunion special where she joined Will and the rest of the cast of the popular sitcom.

Hubert was replaced by Daphne Maxwell Reid after three seasons of the show reportedly because of difficulties between her and Smith.

In the latest episode of Red Table Talk, Smith took over as host and spoke with psychologist Dr. Ramani Durvasula.

He noted that his own behaviour during ‘Fresh Prince’ was that of a 21-year-old trying to do anything he could to find success.

Smith said, “My father was violent in my house. So a part of the whole creation of Will Smith, the joking, fun, silly, was to make sure my father was entertained enough not to hurt my mother or anybody in the house.”

This desire for approval was then projected onto his TV family during the show.

“The little boy in me level, with Hubert, I needed Mommy to think I was great. And when I realized she didn’t, my dragon woke up.”

The Fresh Prince reunion, where Smith and Hubert opened up about their history, is available on HBO Max.
