US rapper Coolio has died at the age of 59.
According to reports, he was found unresponsive on the bathroom floor of a friend’s LA house.
The exact cause of his death has not yet been revealed.
Coolio, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr, is perhaps best known for his Grammy-winning track “Gangsta’s Paradise” which came off the soundtrack for the 1995 movie “Dangerous Minds”.
That movie starred Michelle Pfeiffer, who also featured in the video for the song’s music video.
In a tribute, Pfeiffer said she was “heartbroken”, adding that the track was “the reason our film saw so much success.”
Over a career spanning four decades, Coolio recorded eight studio albums and also won an American Music Award and three MTV Video Music Awards.
He even found an outlet for his love of food with a book and internet series called “Cooking with Coolio”.
