The hit film ‘Lagaan’ could soon be adapted into a production for the West End Theatre in the UK.
According to Times of India, several leading producers are seeking the rights from Aamir Khan Productions, with a final decision reportedly to be made soon.
Starring Aamir Khan, ‘Lagaan’ is a sports-drama released in 2001.
Set in 1893 during the time of colonial British rule in India, the film follows the inhabitants of a village burdened by high taxes and several years of drought.
They are challenged to a game of cricket by an arrogant British Indian Army officer, and subsequently face the arduous task of learning a game that is alien to them.
The film was a critical and commercial success.
It went on to win eight Filmfare Awards and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
