Despite the challenges posed by the current COVID-19 pandemic, the Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival continues to persevere, and will take place this year.
However, given local restrictions, the event will be hosted online, with persons able to purchase tickets/passes to view this year’s film entries on their devices at home.
One of the films to be shown this year is “Mightier Dan De Sun”, directed and produced by Trevon Jugmohan and written by Anthony Blackburn.
The film has a running time of 37 minutes, and features the acting talents of Kala Neehall and Arnold Goindhan.
It is in competition for Best Medium Length Narrative Film and Best Trinidad and Tobago Film.
According to a description posted by the T&T Film Festival on its official Facebook page:
“Mightier dan de Sun” is the story of an Indian couple with nothing to lose. In combination with mental illness and supernatural forces, alcohol becomes a catalyst for unfortunate events.
Speaking with 103.1FM, Mr Jugmohan went even more in depth, describing it as a “psychological supernatural thriller” that will leave the audience contemplating.
“Mightier Dan De Sun” is Mr Jugmohan’s first time directing and his first true venture into film.
He has a theatre background that saw him work closely with and train under the legendary Raymond Choo Kong.
The road to completion however was a lengthy one – 10 years to be precise.
Among the stumbling blocks along the way was finding the right actress.
So what was filming like?
It technically took four days to shoot the scenes, however for him as director, it was a much more encompassing experience.
“Mightier Dan De Sun” will be available for viewing online, this Thursday September 10th, 2020.
