The classic hit “Anand” is set to be remade.
Starring Rajesh Khanna and a then unknown Amitabh Bachchan, “Anand” was released over 50 years ago, in 1971.
It tells the story of a man who refuses to give in to the finality of a looming death, and has been hailed by some as one of the greatest Hindi films ever made.
That’s a big legacy to live up to.
According to a report by The Indian Express, the remake will be set in the post-Covid era and is still in the scripting phase.
It adds that producer Sameer Raj Sippy believes stories like these need to be narrated to the new generation.
He reportedly issued a statement saying, “Keeping in mind the sensibilities of the original film and the emotions attached, I feel the current generation needs to be re-told the many stories that are so relevant today, especially when there is a great appetite for good content.”
