The Education Ministry intends to circulate a second draft of the Guidelines for the Physical Reopening of Schools.
This follows the announcement by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley about the possible resumption of face to face classes, for some students, on February 8th 2021.
The Ministry’s proposal includes physical classes for students in Standard 5 and Forms 4-6, the wearing of masks, the shortening of the school day, the establishment of a Health Unit to manage the health protocols at schools, and arrangements for schools to set up and operate a parallel system for students who do not return to the physical classroom.
The Ministry says the draft guidelines will be circulated to stakeholders by December 11th, to be followed by a stakeholder meeting in the first week of January 2021.
It says it intends to have the final version completed and issued within the second week of January 2021.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister announced that all schools are due to re-open virtually on January 4th 2021.
The January CSEC examinations will also be held from January 17th to February 4th.
This will precede plans to return some students to school, once deemed possible by the Ministry of Health.
