ID cards expired or due to expire in 2020, will now be valid until June 30th 2021
This word comes from the Elections and Boundaries Commission which says the extension is necessary to facilitate an anticipated increased level of renewals and the introduction of a new format identification card under new protocols, which are required for health and safety considerations under the current pandemic situation.
It adds that the extension of the expiry date is being instituted in accordance with Registration Rules 31 (5) and (6) of the Representation of the People Act, Chapter 2:01.
It is also a further extension to one that was implemented earlier this year.
All persons with an expired national identification card can call the EBC’s offices from December 21st 2020 to make an appointment for the renewal process.
Appointments are scheduled to begin on January 4th 2021.
The EBC adds that in order to facilitate the increased level of transactions, offices will operate with extended working hours for a three month period.
This will include offices being open to the public on Saturdays to facilitate walk-ins for renewals.
