An MP believes government is ignoring a public health emergency regarding Giant African Snails and mosquitoes.
Couva South MP Rudranath Indarsingh says his constituents have reached out to him about a “growing population” of snails.
They persons have claimed to have reached out to the Agriculture Ministry for intervention but to no avail, save and except for some advice of how to control the snail population.
Mr Indarsingh is concerned, especially as during the July/August vacation, more children tend to be outdoors and may be at risk.
The MP is also taking issue with the Ministry of Health which he claims has not sprayed Couva South for mosquitoes.
He says constituents have reported an increase in the mosquito population and are worried about the spread of mosquito borne diseases.
